American Legion Posts Tribute


ADELANTO — Forty World War II veterans were recognized on Saturday in a ceremony at the American Legion Adelanto Post 229.
Dakota Higgins, Field Representative for Republican Rep. Paul Cook of the 8th District, presented encased flags that have flown over the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C. to each of the three local American Legion post commanders in Adelanto, Apple Valley and Hesperia.
Each of the commanders were also given a box of certificates to pass out to World War II veterans at their post.
Adelanto Post 229 is home to 14 World War II veterans while the Apple Valley Post 256 has 17 and Hesperia Post 725 has 9.
Chaplain Peter Walker from Post 229 presented the World War II Four Chaplains ceremony which commemorates the heroic actions of four chaplains aboard the sinking U.S.A.T. Dorchester in 1943.
The event was organized by High Desert Commander's Club.
