ADELANTO: Driver on wrong side of road strikes, kills motorcyclist

A woman who was driving on the wrong side of the road struck and killed a motorcycle rider in Adelanto, officials said.

The rider, a 59-year-old Adelanto man whose name was withheld until his family can be notified, was going west on Rancho Road about 6:40 a.m. Tuesday, May 26, when another motorist, 21-year-old Alexia Martinez, also of Adelanto, was driving east on the wrong side of the road, San Bernardino County sheriff's officials said in a news release.

They collided between Jonathan Street and Highway 395. The rider was thrown to the pavement and despite paramedics' efforts to resuscitate him, he died on the scene, officials said.

Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the collision and the circumstances are under investigation. Anybody with information was asked to call Deputy Brett Haynes at 760-552-6800.
