Last year, the National Day Laborer Organizing Network, Immigrant Youth Coalition and other allies collaborated and put together weekly concerts outside of the Metropolitan Detention Center in Los Angeles, culminating with President Obama's administrative relief announcement. For 7 week straight, musicians (like Ana Tijoux, Los Cadetes de Linares, etc.) and community members gathered together to let the people detained inside know that they are not alone. We believe that the "Felons not Families" frame currently used by the President and the media divides our community and allows for the further criminalization of our existence.For all these reasons, we are now planning to take the same idea, to bring music to those most vulnerable, and spread it to different detention centers throughout the country. The first one will be the Adelanto Detention Center. More information to come.....
