EDITOR’S NOTE: This is the second in a series of stories looking ahead at the coming year in each of the Victor Valley’s four municipalities.
ADELANTO — As Adelanto leaders grapple with the reality that their cash flow may run out by the end of this year, the manager of the tiny High Desert city said its finances will continue to be his top priority in 2015.
Looking ahead, City Manager Jim Hart said the decision to file for bankruptcy will come down to a number of factors that must still be discussed with newly-elected officials.
“We have not had any time to discuss the options available with Mayor (Rich) Kerr or Council members (Charley) Glasper and (John “Bug”) Woodard,” Hart said. “We need to have those discussions before any final decisions are made.”
Regarding Adelanto’s current $2.6 million fiscal crisis, Hart said the city has worked hard to keep expenses down and will continue to look for new revenue sources to stay afloat.
“As a result of their effort, and some one-time revenues, we have been able to extend the city’s reserves into late 2015,” Hart said. “This has given the city more time to try to develop revenue options to help. Whether or not a new measure for a modified Utility Users Tax will be presented is up to the City Council.”
